Do you have a hero? Perhaps your mom or dad, a brother or sister, a soldier, or a superhero is your hero. Maybe the President or a world leader is your hero. Maybe someone who has invented something or discovered a new land is your hero.

What if you met someone who gave up everything for a cause? They were willing to leave home, find a new place to live, learn a new language all because they loved someone. Wow! That's a lot to give up for one person. But, when you've been loved by someone really well, you might be willing to give it all up too! And in the process they want to tell others about that great love. I don't know about you, but someone who can offer me the best thing in the world, they are my hero.

This week, some people who have given up an awful lot are coming to visit. It's Missions Festival week at CPC. Missionaries from all over the world are coming to tell us about their work sharing the love of Jesus with others. They will be traveling around the globe to be with us. Coming from Japan, China, Ukraine, Washington, DC, and other parts of the world these folks will be able to tell us about giving it all up -- going the distance -- taking the chance -- fighting for the prize -- telling people about real love.

On Sunday, April 26th, you can come and experience some of the places that these missionaries live -- see what they get to experience and practice some of their customs. Starting at 6p join us for some Worship and then head to KidZone in the Chapel to be part of Proclaiming Peace to all nations. Then on Monday, April 27th, show your parents all the cool things you learned. We'll be meeting Missionaries in the Fellowship Hall starting at 7pm.

Mom & Dad - if you'd like to help, just let Miss Debby know.

Easter Egg Hunt

On April 11, join us for our Easter Egg Hunt, 10-11:30AM.

Enjoy a snack, crafts, hunt and a story -- the best story ever.

Hey Chapelgate friends!!

Maybe we don't have anyone who loves us. Maybe we don't get to play with toys that are our own. Maybe we have to stay inside all the time because we'd freeze outside. Maybe our heat has been turned off for the last few months because there isn't enough money.

Maybe things are going well. Maybe things are going bad. Either way, it's all because of Jesus. God tells us that everything in our world is held together by Jesus. So, if things are good or bad, it's all because of Jesus. If things are hard or easy, it's all because of Jesus. If bellies are full or empty, it's all because of Jesus and his love for us.

Jesus' love for us invades every part of our world. And His love is an odd thing to grasp. It fills us and makes us realize how empty we are. His love reaches us and reminds us how very far we are. His love embraces us and shows us our need of him. It gives us hope and creates more hope than we could ever have imagined.

But, we can see that God's hand is involved with all that we have occurring. Whether we have lots or little, his pursuits are to draw us to him -- over and over again -- all through love. And because of that love, we can't help but to give back. Look at all we've got!! His life, his death, his power over sin, his resurrection from the dead! He's done all of it for you and me! Think about how you can give back, how you can show thanks for that love.

The Ice - the Fear - the Reality

This week, we had quite a few snow days -- 2 with 1 delay! Woooohooo! I love getting snow days. Being from Florida, we don't have those. We sometimes got hurricane days, but those didn't amount to much.

And being from Florida, I don't know how to drive in the ice. It scares me. I'm not sure what is going to happen with my car - will it stop in time, will it hold up under the pressure, will I make it out of my driveway? I get scared. I was talking with a young friend of mine about her nap. She said that it was a good nap because no monsters came to her door. That was a good nap.

You know what? We all get scared sometimes. Whether we are scared about our family or what is going on with Mom and Dad. Whether someone we know is sick and might die or if we think about not doing well on a test. And sometimes we get scared because we just don't know what is going on. Thankfully, we have Someone who is always with us. Jesus promises to be with us. I told my friend that even when she was scared of the monsters, she could trust that Jesus, God's Son, would be with her.

This past Sunday, we learned that we could trust that Jesus is God's Son, able to heal us. And we learned what it means to forgive others. We can forgive only through Jesus' power and love, and that same power will help us turn from sin. We can believe in Jesus and his work on the cross so much so that we can celebrate each week about His goodness. We also talked about living lives that didn't conform to the world's ideas. Who in the world would really say to forgive others, celebrate the work of someone else, or to love as an expression of gratitude?

Can't wait to see you on Sunday! Think about a time you were scared, remembered Jesus was with you and were able to get through it. Share it with me on Sunday.

Peace,

Miss Debby

Inauguration Day!

Tomorrow, a big day will occur in America. We'll be swearing in the 44th President of these great States! We'll be witnessing history as Mr. Obama takes the oath of office. He'll swear to honor the Constitution and to look for the best interest of the American people.

Yesterday, we learned about a man who was looking our for more than just Americans. Jesus was looking out for the best interest of all mankind. People in Mexico, Turkey, Ethiopia, China, Ukraine all have a place in the family of God. They were all part of the plan when Jesus came to earth over 2,000 years ago.

From the moments he changed the water into wine, told about a forgiving father, raised a friend from the dead, was foreshadowed in sacrifices and reminds of us his beautiful work for us on the cross, all of his life was for our best interest. He was working so you and I could know God, walk with him and to live lives that have meaning.

Coming soon, keep an eye open for ways that you can express gratitude for the One who day by day is part of our world in a hands on way!

Peace,
Miss Debby

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas!

Thanksgiving is just around the corner and Christmas music has started to play on the radio. The anticipation is high. Much like the anticipation of the Israelites as they waited to see how God would keep his promise to save his people. And on that first Christmas morning, the excitement must have gushed over the edges of the shepherd's hearts. They knew something big had occurred and they started to celebrate. We get to celebrate that excitement each and every day. Won't you join us for some of the excitement?

Some dates to know:

December 7th - Gingerbread House Decorating - an annual event. Come and decorate a gingerbread house to take home, immediately following church. $20 per house, $2 per person for lunch, and 2 bags of decorating candy per family to share. You do need to RSVP, by Dec 4: amriehl@chapelgate.org

December 12-14 - The Christmas Schooner - how the Christmas trees became a holiday tradition in America. Call 410-442-5800 for tickets. Kids and adults are welcome, as kids and adults are in the show!

Penny drive - As kids, we hear talk in the family about money and the cost of things. Money is tight this year, but let's see what we can do to help someone else. Even though the bundle under the tree might not be as large this year, there are some who won't have anything. Would you please help as we raise money for Casa Hogar for Children in Acapulco, Mexico?

Bring in your money from now until December 28th, and let's work together to raise $500 for the kids in Mexico! They might need a new shirt, a new washer machine, or even new blankets. It's mighty cold up here, but even in sunny Mexico one needs a blanket on their bed.

Thank you for being part of our family and joining us to help other families. May the excitement of sharing the Good News of Jesus' birth overflow your heart with great joy. Joy! Joy! Joy!

Canned food drive

What did you eat for breakfast today? I had a granola bar and some tea. You might have enjoyed some cereal, an egg or two, or perhaps pancakes. YUMMY! And then, what will it be for lunch? A sandwich, soup, salad, pizza to fill your belly? It's hard to remember that there are people in our community who might not get those options of things to eat. Some of them won't have anything to eat at all .

On September 14th, Chapelgate Church is hosting THE BIG PICNIC!!! (That should have boomed out to you in a stadium announcer's voice.) As part of the picnic, we are collecting canned goods and non-perishable items to donate to local food banks. Our gathering of food can make a difference in our community.

We have been loved so very much by a very generous God. He has given us all that we need. And He will use us to give to others what they need. Let's show God how thankful we are for His kindness to us in giving back to Him in canned goods for others. You know, beans, soup, tuna, corn, potato flakes, etc. Save up a few dollars from your allowance and see what you can get at the store.

Bring the goods to Sunday School on September 14th before THE BIG PICNIC and we'll be part of a major opportunity to give thanks to God!!

Promotion Sunday 2008!!!

On August 24th our children will be moving up for their new Sunday School class. (Individual pages will be available each week at the information booth.)

Kids – bring in your Bible and your book to help you follow along during the service. Takes notes, make comments, and read your Bible as we listen to the Word of God being explained to us each week.

Once the service is over, head to the check station, near the Fellowship Hall. The Checker on duty might ask you a question, see what Scripture was used, or use other inquiries to see if you were paying attention. Then, having provided the desired answers, you’ll receive a ticket. (If you have your book each week, you’ll get an additional ticket.) At the end of each quarter, come to the Chapelgate Kids Store where you can redeem your tickets for prizes. You know you like those nifty gadgets!

As a church, our purpose in worship is to honor the One who makes us, saves us, and redeems us. It is our job to praise him and to listen to what he wants to teach us. It’s a big task, but with the Holy Spirit’s help we can do it. Use the Worship Books as a tool to assist in your learning. Some adults even need to have little note cards to help them pay attention … that might be me!

So, get your Worship Book during Sunday School next week or at the information booth before the services, and let’s worship our great God together!

New Website - New People

Chapelgate Children's Ministry - aka Chapelgate Kids - is taking part in the new version of Chapelgate PCA's websites. Using blogs to communicate information, past events, and other ministries, we are able to be more uptodate than before. Each ministry will have control over their blog, thus providing you, whether we know you or not, with the most pertinent information needed.

The first thing to communicate to you is our new Children Ministry Director - Debby Sutton. Debby comes to us from Florida. Growing up in South Florida, college at the University of Florida, and graduate school at Reformed Theological Seminary in Orlando, FL she has spent her life in the sunny, constant summer like weather of the Sunshine State. But, she is willing to take on the cold and the rolling hills all because she loves kids. Debby previously worked at Orangewood Presbyterian Church in Maitland, FL. She loves to bake, read, watch movies, find new places to visit, and especially to laugh. Her main focus of life is to make sure all around her know who God is -- and that he loves us more than we can ever dream!

Let's welcome Debby to our adventures here in Maryland!

The second thing to let you know about is that we had a great time at Camp Olympion this summer! Over 350 kids came to hear about running the Race of Faith as they studied the life of Joshua. He was wholeheartedly following God throughout his life through obedience and faith. And Joshua's life points us to know the One with perfect obedience: Jesus.

Campers learned new games, made awesome crafts, had fantastic snacks (have you had your Salvation Sundae?!), and learned 3 songs to sing at the closing program and in church on Sunday. They also helped create 10 meals for needy families in the community. Kids also got to see the love of God in action through the lifes of their counselors and coaches. And they heard the amazing reality that God's grace is big enough to help them through the struggles of faith.

Next year is sure to be just as exciting and full of new things to learn about our great God!

Special thank you's go out to our many volunteers!! None of this would have happened without you!!!
